Police Arrest Man After Dumping Stolen Car In City

A man has been arrested after abandoning a stolen car in the CBD last night.

About 9pm on Tuesday 3 September, police saw a stolen red Kia SUV on North East Road, Holden Hill.

The Kia had been reported stolen from Adelaide on 28 August.

Patrols attempted to follow the car as it travelled through the back streets of Holden Hill and Gilles Plains.

The car's tyres were spiked when it was located again on North East Road but it continued driving and police again lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, police received information that the stolen Kia had crashed at the intersection of Grand Junction Road and Sudholz Road.

Police will allege that after crashing the Kia, the man then assaulted another driver and stole her car, a silver Toyota sedan, and drove off.

The 22-year-old victim did not require medical treatment.

The suspect was then seen driving the second stolen car on Montague Road and down to Main North Road before heading into the city.

About 9.30pm, the stolen Toyota was abandoned in Woodsons Lane and the driver fled on foot. Patrols were quickly on scene and arrested the alleged driver.

A 34-year-old man from Semaphore Park was arrested and charged with driving disqualified, robbery, illegal use and dangerous driving to escape police pursuit.

He has not applied for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dashcam footage of the collision is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
