A man has been arrested following a wide-scale police search, after an elderly man was stabbed in Sydney's Inner West this afternoon.
About 3.45pm (Sunday 29 December 2024), emergency services were called to Lyons Road near Williams Road, Five Dock, following reports of a stabbing.
Police have been told an 82-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen by another man on the street, before he ran from the scene.
Witnesses went to the assistance of the elderly man before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived. He was treated at the scene and taken to RPA in a critical condition.
Officers from Burwood Police Area Command attended and have established a crime scene.
Following extensive inquiries, at about 6.20pm today police located and arrested a 51-year-old man in Pyrmont.
The man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he is assisting police with inquiries.
Initial inquiries have led police to believe the men are known to each other.
