Police Arrest Man After Evade

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man after a speeding ute evaded police in Hoppers Crossing overnight.

Officers observed a white Nissan utility with false registration plates travelling at speed along Derrimut Road around 12.40am.

It is estimated that the ute was travelling at 130km/h in a 60km/h zone and crossing onto the wrong side of the road.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but it drove off.

The Air Wing were called in and kept observations on the ute while officers on the ground deployed vehicle immobilisation devices on Tarneit Road.

The ute attempted to avoid the devices and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The ute crashed into the front of a restaurant on Tarneit Road, Tarneit and the driver ran off.

Officers from the Dog Squad were quickly on scene and a 29-year-old man from Werribee was arrested.

He has been taken to hospital for a medical assessment but is expected to be interviewed by police later today.
