A man has been arrested following an incident on Sydney's North Shore.
About 9am today (Monday 15 July 2024) emergency services were called to a property on Figtree Road, Hunters Hill, following a concern for welfare.
When officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command attempted to approach the property, they noticed a man inside was armed with a machete.
Specialist police, including negotiators, were called to the scene.
About 1pm, smoke was seen coming from the property.
Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze.
Police arrested a 56-year-old man.
He has been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for assessment.
Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
