Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man after a woman was left with life-threatening injuries following a crash in Kilmore last night.
It is believed the driver of a Mitsubishi SUV was travelling along Kilmore East Road when they left the roadway and crashed into a tree about 8pm.
The driver, a 29-year-old Kilmore East man, fled the scene.
The passenger, a 38-year-old Kilmore woman, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she remains in a stable condition.
The Kilmore East man was located and arrested by police after he self-presented to hospital where he remains under police guard.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and officers from Seymour Highway Patrol will continue the investigation.
