A police officer has been injured following an incident at Tailem Bend this evening.
About 10.30am Tuesday 24 December, police were called after a Mitsubishi with no front bumper, a smashed windscreen and no registration plates was seen driving erratically near Padthaway. Police searched for the car but could not locate it at this time.
Later, just after 6pm, PolAir spotted the Mitsubishi leaving Meningie heading north toward Tailem Bend.
About 6.30pm the car pulled into a service station in Tailem Bend. As police attempted to spike the car's tyres the car collided with a police officer. The police officer received leg injuries and has been conveyed to hospital in a stable condition.
The car drove south on the Princes Highway before the driver and sole occupant dumped the car on Golf Course Road and ran into the scrub.
Police with the assistance of STAR Group officers located and negotiated with the man before he was safely placed under arrest just after 8pm.
Upon searching the man's car police allegedly located two firearms.
The 30-year-old man is expected to be charged with a number of serious offences, including causing injuries to a police officer. The man will be refused bail and will appear in court on Thursday. Police treat any matter when a police officer is injured extremely seriously and will be examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that the alleged offender is dealt with appropriately before the courts.
