Police have arrested a man following a series of incidents involving erratic driving in Melbourne's south-east today.
A black Holden sedan was driving erratically in the car park of a convenience store at the corner of Douglas Parade and Heatherton Road in Noble Park at about 6pm when it collided with several parked cars.
It is alleged the driver of the Holden then drove into the adjoining supermarket carpark where members of the public tried to stop him.
Police arrived and attempted to intercept the vehicle but when the driver failed to pull over, a very low speed pursuit was initiated through the carpark out onto Heatherton Road.
The driver collided into another police car on that was on its way to assist on Heatherton Road, causing the Holden to come to rest against a tree.
Police were forced to smash the car window to extract the driver and OC spray was deployed in an effort to subdue him.
No injuries were sustained to members of the public, police or the offender as a result of the collisions.
The man in his 40s from Murrumbeena has been arrested to be later interviewed and charged.
Police are appealing for the drivers of the damaged cars and any witnesses to please
contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
