A man has been arrested following a pursuit in Newcastle this afternoon.
About 12.35pm (Thursday 27 March 2025), officers were patrolling Hamilton when they attempted to stop a Kia Rio hatchback.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued to Mayfield where the driver allegedly clipped the side mirror of a truck on Maitland Road.
Officers pursued the vehicle to Newcastle West where another vehicle was side-swiped, and the pursuit was terminated.
A short time later, the hatchback allegedly collided with a vehicle on Stuart Avenue, Hamilton East, before the driver left the scene on foot.
Officers pursued the man on foot through a residential area before the 45-year-old man was arrested on Corona Street.
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he is assisting police with inquiries.
The drivers of the other vehicles did not require medical treatment.
