A man has been arrested following an alleged pursuit through the Illawarra yesterday.
About 10pm (Wednesday 8 January 2025), officers attached to Wollongong Police District sighted a car with alleged stolen number plates on Railway Parade, Wollongong.
Police attempted to pull the car over; however, when it failed to stop as directed a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through local streets of Wollongong and Coniston.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle and the pursuit was terminated on Buena Vista Ave, Lake Heights.
The car was monitored, and police re-engaged the pursuit on the Princes Highway, Yallah.
A short time later the car crashed on Croome Lane, Albion Park, with the two males allegedly running from the car.
A 23-year-old man allegedly jumped a small concrete fence and was located nearby.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics after the man appeared to suffer from a medical episode.
He was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for treatment, before he was released and taken to Wollongong Police Station.
He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (motor vehicle).
He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 9 January 2025)
Inquiries are continuing to locate the second person and anyone with dashcam or information, is urged to contact Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police will allege the car was stolen from Pankhurst Street, Fairy Meadow, between 8.30pm and 10:30pm yesterday (Wednesday 8 January 2025).
