Police Arrest Man After Siege - West Kempsey

A man remains in hospital under police guard and two people have been injured after a siege on the state's Mid North Coast.

About 2am today (Sunday 15 December 2024), emergency services responded to reports that a man – who was armed with a machete – was holding two people against their will at a home on Keith Moses Crescent, West Kempsey.

Officers from Mid North Coast Police District secured a perimeter and requested the attendance of specialist police, including Police Negotiators and the Tactical Operations Unit.

Shortly after 2pm, officers forced entry to the premises and used a number of tactical options to take the man into custody, including the use of a Taser.

The 34-year-old man was taken to Kempsey District Hospital where he remains under police guard with non-life threatening injuries.

The two people inside the home – a man and a woman aged in their 50's – suffered minor injuries.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the people are known to each other.
