Police Arrest Suspect After Police Car Rammed in Footscray

A man has been arrested after ramming a police vehicle in a stolen utility in Footscray this morning.

Police patrolling Leander Street came across the stolen Nissan Navara parked outside a house just after 10am.

While officers were making enquiries, a man drove-off in the Nissan, police swiftly giving chase.

The driver and sole occupant rammed into the police sedan before slamming into a power pole.

He then reversed into a parked civilian vehicle before crashing into another power pole.

Police commenced a foot chase after he ran from the utility before using capsicum spray to arrest him on Eleanor Street.

The 36-year-old Footscray man was transported to hospital with minor injuries where he remains under police guard.

No one was injured as a result of the ramming.

Police believe that the Nissan was stolen from an address in Kalkallo sometime between the 4 September and the early hours of 5 September.
