Police Arrest Suspects in Darwin Stolen Car Chases

Northern Territory police made multiple arrests following several stolen motor vehicle pursuits over the weekend.

Around 1:40am Saturday 27 July, Strike force Trident, Dog Operations Unit and Darwin Traffic Operations initiated a pursuit of two stolen motor vehicles, both Toyota Landcruiser utilities, travelling outbound on Channel Island Road.

Both vehicles drove off-road near Jenkins Road with one of the vehicles becoming stuck on a section of the train tracks.

A 15-year-old male driver and 29-year-old male passenger were subsequently apprehended from this vehicle.

Both offenders have been charged with multiple property related offences with further charges expected as investigations into their offending progress.

Both males are remanded to appear in Court today.

The second Toyota Landcruiser was unable to be located and the occupants remains outstanding.

In a separate incident, a vehicle was reported stolen in Berrimah around 7:30pm on Friday 26 July 2024.

Around 10:20pm the same night, Strike Force Trident located the vehicle, and a pursuit was commenced.

The stolen vehicle travelled through Karama, Marrara, Berrimah, Tivendale, Wishart and Winnellie, with Tire Deflation Devices successfully deployed along multiple locations on the Stuart Highway, Berrimah.

The vehicle came to a stop in Karama and a 16-year-old male was arrested at the scene and later charged with:

  • Driving, Using/Riding Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Theft
  • Learner Driver - No Person in Front Seat
  • Drive Without L Plates When Required
  • Driving Vehicle Dangerous Manner Pursuit
  • Damage to Property

The 16-year-old offender is remanded to appear in Court today.
