Police Arrest Two Men In Targeted Police Operation

Two men have been charged following a targeted police operation investigating gun-related violence in southern Tasmania.

Detective Inspector Troy Morrisby said the 38-year-old man from Moonah and the 35-year-old man from West Moonah were arrested separately on 17 July.

"These arrests were made during Operation Country, a joint taskforce involving a range of specialist areas within Tasmania Police and the Australian Federal Police," he said.

"This operation was aimed at investigating several instances of gun-related violence in southern Tasmania during April, June and July this year."

"These two men were identified as primary targets of the operation."

"Following the arrests, police searched the residence of one of the men and located a quantity of methylamphetamine, a stolen firearm believed to have been used in a previous firearms incident, ammunition and telecommunication devices."

"An imitation firearm was also located during a subsequent search of a Moonah property."

"The men are facing charges including aggravated assault and burglary, possession of stolen and shortened firearms, recklessly discharge a firearm, drug trafficking and firearms trafficking."

Investigations are continuing and anyone with information about gun-related violence or other related matters is asked to contact police on 131 444.
