Police charge driver after man struck by ute at Tilpa

A driver has been charged after a man was struck and killed in the state's Far West yesterday.

About 12.30am (Thursday 23 February 2023), emergency services were called to Nelyambo Bridge Road, Tilpa, about 140km north-east of Wilcannia, following reports a man had been hit by a ute.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man, stopped and rendered first aid to the 29-year-old man.

The driver alerted NSW Ambulance paramedics and drove the injured man, meeting them on the Barrier Highway.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

The driver was uninjured.

Officers attached to Central North Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following inquiries, the driver was arrested at Cobar Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Cobar Local Court on Wednesday 29 March 2023.
