A man has been charged following a pursuit with police in the Hunter Valley last night.
About 10.30pm (Wednesday 24 January 2024), officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District were patrolling Mount View Road, Cessnock, when they attempted to stop a Toyota Corolla.
When the Toyota allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, continuing towards Abermain.
At Abermain, road spikes were deployed, and the vehicle came to a stop a short time later.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed several items of interest including an unauthorised number plate, ID and bank cards believed to have been stolen, and a substance believed to be cannabis.
The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station, while the passenger was released without incident.
The Merrylands man was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, use uninsured motor vehicle on road, and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear before Cessnock Local Court today (Thursday 25 January 2024).
