A driver has been charged following a fatal crash on the Alpine Way in the state's Riverina late last year.
About 10.15am on Saturday 18 December 2021, emergency services were called to Scammels Gap Lookout – about 20km north of Khancoban – after reports an SUV and a number of motorcycles had collided.
Officers from Riverina Police District arrived and attempted to assist one motorcyclist – a 59-year-old man – however, he died at the scene.
Two other motorcyclists and the driver of the SUV were treated at the scene before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital – the cyclists in a serious condition and the driver with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, the driver of the SUV – a 63-year-old woman – attended Albury Police Station on Sunday (3 April 2022).
She was issued a Court Attendance Notice for dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning death, and cause injury by wilful misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle.
The Victorian woman will appear in Tumbarumba Local Court on Thursday 9 June 2022.
The woman's rights to drive in NSW have been suspended.
