Police Charge Driver Over Fatal Crash - Murulla

A man will face court charged over a fatal crash in state's north last year.

About 2pm on Monday 2 December 2024, emergency services were called to New England Highway, Murulla, about 25km north of Scone, following reports a truck and an SUV had collided.

The driver of the SUV – a 53-year-old man – died before emergency services arrived at the scene.

A passenger of the vehicle – a 55-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The truck driver – a 45-year-old man - was taken to the same hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A crime scene was established and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, yesterday (Sunday 23 March 2025), the 45-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), not keep left of dividing line – class B/C vehicle, cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).

He was issued a court attendance notice to appear at Muswellbrook Local Court on Friday 2 May 2025.
