Five people are before the courts after a brawl in the Sydney CBD on Saturday night that saw several police officers assaulted.
About 11.50pm (Saturday 17 April 2021), officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command responded to reports of a fight at a premises on Pitt Street.
Police were told a man had allegedly punched and kicked another man repeatedly, before being escorted from the location by security guards.
While officers were attempting to arrest the man, a number of other individuals became involved. The man, from Yagoona, then allegedly shoved a constable in the chest.
OC Spray was used to subdue the man and other members of the group, known to him, including a woman who allegedly punched another officer in the face. Another man allegedly pushed a sergeant in the chest.
The three men and woman were arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station. Officers attached to City East Highway Patrol, Kings Cross Police Area Command and Public Order and Riot Squad assisted with the arrests.
The Yagoona man, aged 25, was charged with affray, two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and assault police officer in execution of duty.
The woman, a 22-year-old from Seaforth, was charged with common assault, excluded person re-enter/attempt to re-enter premises, and assault police officer in execution of duty.
A 25-year-old man, from Wentworth Point, was charged with resist officer in execution of duty, and assault police officer in execution of duty.
Another 25-year-old man, from Oakhurst, was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.
All four were refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court yesterday (Sunday 18 April 2021). They were granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 29 April 2021.
A 26-year-old man, from Kingsgrove, was also arrested at the scene and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty. He was given conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 19 May 2021.
The officers were treated for minor injuries.
