Five teenagers have been charged following an alleged pursuit at Newcastle earlier today.
About 3am (Thursday 19 September 2024), police from Newcastle City Police District attempted to stop a Hyundai i30 on Parkway Avenue, Cooks Hill, due to the vehicle being reported stolen.
When the Hyundai allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through several suburbs before the vehicle came to a stop on Industrial Drive, Mayfield West.
Five teenagers were arrested at the scene and taken to Newcastle Police Station following a short foot pursuit.
The alleged driver of the car, a 14-year-old boy, underwent a breath analysis which allegedly returned a positive reading of 0.105.
He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and drive with middle range PCA.
A 17-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
Both boys were granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Wednesday 30 October 2024.
A 16-year-old boy was charged with breach of bail, custody of knife in public place, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Thursday 19 September 2024).
A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
