Four teens have been charged following inquiries into a carjacking in the state's north as part of Operation Regional Mongoose.
About 3.30am yesterday (Thursday 18 April 2024), a car stopped behind a woman reversing her car out of a driveway on Bloomfield Street, Gunnedah.
Two people – one allegedly armed with a knife - approached the woman demanding she exit her car before they threw her to the ground and fled the location in her Holden Commodore.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the incident.
About 6.30am, during patrols of the area police receive reports of a crash at the intersection of Stock and Bridge Road, Gunnedah, involving a Holden Commodore and a Ford Focus.
Four people were sighted fleeing the area and police set up a perimeter.
A short time later four boys – aged 15,16,17 and 18 – were arrested and taken to Gunnedah Police Station.
Checks reveal the Ford was stolen from a home on Hunter Street, Gunnedah, overnight.
The four teens were each charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, two counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, two counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, assault with intent to rob in company, and aggravated robbery.
The older teen was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Friday 19 April 2024).
The three other teens were refused bail to appear at a children's court today (Friday 19 April 2024).
