A man has been charged following an investigation into two armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery in Sydney's west early this week.
Officers from Nepean Police Area Command commenced an investigation after three incidents, believed to be linked, occurred between Monday (13 September 2021) and Tuesday (14 September 2021).
The incidents include;
• About 8pm on Monday (13 September 2021), officers were called to a service station on Aspen Street, South Penrith, following reports of an armed robbery. Police were told a man entered the service station and threatened a male employee with a knife demanding cash, before fleeing the scene.
• In a second incident, just before 6am on Tuesday (14 September 2021), police were called to a service station on the Great Western Highway at St Marys, following reports of an armed robbery. Police were told a man entered the service station and threatened a male employee with a knife whilst demanding cash, before fleeing the scene.
• A short time later, in a third incident, police were called to another service station on the Great Western Highway at St Marys, following reports of an attempted armed robbery. Police were told a man entered the service station and threated a male employee, before fleeing the area.
A crime scene was established at all three locations and an investigation commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
Following initial inquiries, police identified that a man had travelled to all three locations in a white Toyota Echo at the time of each incident.
About 8.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 13 September 2021), an off-duty police officer observed the white Toyota Echo broken down on Luxford Road, Shalvey, and alerted police.
A short time later, officers attached to North West Metropolitan Operations Support Group (OSG), with assistance from Mt Druitt Police Area Command and Nepean Police Area Command, attended and arrested a 30-year-old man at the scene.
He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon and robbery.
The Tregear man was refused bail to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court today (Wednesday 15 September 2021).
