Police Charge Man After Armed Robbery At Quirindi

A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged armed robbery in the state's northwest.

About 12.15pm today (Thursday 14 November 2024), police were called to retail store on George Street, Quirindi, near Tamworth, following reports of an armed robbery.

At the scene, police were told that a man entered the store before allegedly threatening a female employee with a steel bar, demanding money.

The man left on foot with a quantity of cash.

There were no reports of injuries to any staff or customers.

Detectives from Oxley Police District attended and commenced inquiries into the incident.

Following inquiries, about 2.50pm, police arrested a 49-year-old man at a hotel on George Street, Quirindi.

The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court tomorrow (Friday 15 November 2024).
