Police Charge Man After Assault At Wollongong

A man will face court following an alleged assault in the Wollongong area.

Just after 1.50pm on Friday (30 August 2024), police were called to a licensed venue on Keira Street, Wollongong, following reports of an alleged assault.

On arrival, officers attached to Wollongong Police District spoke to employees at the venue and were told a man was allegedly stabbed by another man.

Both men left the scene before police arrived.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.

Following inquiries, about 3.40pm on the same day, officers attended an address in Mangerton and spoke to a 31-year-old man with a stab wound in his finger.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police seized clothing which will undergo forensic examination.

Following further inquiries, about 11.30pm yesterday (Saturday 31 August 2024), officers attached to Wollongong Police District, with assistance from Lake Illawarra Police District, arrested a 56-year-old man at a licensed venue on Central Road, Unanderra.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and four counts of common assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Sunday 1 September 2024), where he was refused bail to reappear at the same court tomorrow (Monday 2 September 2024).
