Police charge man after assault - Merrylands

A man has been charged following an alleged assault in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 5pm (Saturday 4 December 2021), officers from Cumberland Police Area Command were called to a polling booth at a school on Fowler Road, Merrylands, following reports of an alleged assault.

On arrival, police were told a 43-year-old man had been allegedly threatened and assaulted by an unknown man, who then left the scene.

Officers commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which included interviewing several witnesses.

Following further inquiries, police attended a business at Merrylands about 10pm (Saturday 4 December 2021), where they arrested a 29-year-old man.

He was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with common assault.

The man was given conditional bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday 12 January 2022.
