Police Charge Man After Assault - Riverina

A man will face court today (Sunday 7 July 2024) following an alleged assault in the state's south west.

About 10am yesterday (Saturday 6 July 2024), police were called to Wagga Base Hospital after a man presented with life-threatening injuries.

On arrival, police were told a 31-year-old man had been involved in an alleged physical altercation with a 33-year-old man - known to him - outside a residence in Ashmont the evening before (Friday 5 July 2024).

During the altercation, the 31-year-old man allegedly hit his head before he was taken home by a witness.

He was later airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District established Strike Force Fegan and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, about 12.30pm yesterday (Saturday 6 July 2024), police attended an address in Ashmont, where they arrested a 33-year-old man.

The man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Sunday 7 July 2024).
