Police Charge Man After Assault - South Albury

A man has been charged following an alleged assault of another man in the state's south.

About 2.30pm on Thursday 14 November 2024, police were called to Macauley Street, South Albury, following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District were told a driver, a 26-year-old man, parked his delivery van on Macauley Street, when another vehicle pulled up and two men exited.

The men allegedly attempted to steal the van, before the driver attempted to intervene.

The delivery driver was allegedly assaulted, before several packages were stolen from the van.

The two men fled the scene in a car.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the delivery driver for minor head injuries before he was taken to Albury Base Hospital.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation commenced into the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, a 22-year-old male was extradited from Victoria to New South Wales on Thursday 28 November 2024.

He was taken to Albury Police Station and charged with aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm, robbery in company, obstruct/hinder carriage of articles by post, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner dispose motor vehicle part-theft, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Monday 2 December 2024).
