Police Charge Man After Bentleigh East Carjacking

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged carjacking in Bentleigh East today.

Police will allege the man attempted to carjack a woman outside a gymnasium on East Boundary Road about 1.30pm.

It is believed the man assaulted the woman, before two passersby restrained him until police arrived a short time later.

Police will also allege the man assaulted a staff member of the gymnasium, before stealing a radio.

The 29-year-old South Yarra man has been charged with carjacking, unlawful assault x 2, theft, going equipped to steal and possess drug of dependence.

He has been remanded to face Moorabbin Magistrates' Court today.
