Police Charge Man After Berwick Hit And Run

Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged car theft and hit and run outside a Berwick hospital yesterday morning.

The 25-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been charged with several offences including:

- theft of motor vehicle

- dangerous driving causing serious injury

- unlicensed driving

- reckless conduct endanger life

- failing to render assistance

The charges follow an alleged incident where a woman was accompanying her husband from their Ford Territory to a hospital entrance on Kangan Drive around 11.20am.

The 25-year-old man allegedly got into the vehicle, then struck the woman as she attempted to stop him from driving away.

The 66-year-old woman was transported to another hospital where she is in a critical condition.

Detectives arrested the 25-year-old man in Pioneer Bay yesterday afternoon and the Ford was recovered nearby.

He's been remanded to appear at Dandenong Magistrate's Court later today.
