Police Charge Man After Blackburn Aggravated Burglaries

Whitehorse Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following two alleged aggravated burglaries in Blackburn this morning.

It is alleged a man forced entry into an apartment unit on John Street, armed with a weapon, and confronted the occupant about 9.40am.

He allegedly poured petrol onto the 31-year-old Blackburn man and threatened to set him on fire before assaulting him.

The occupant sustained injuries which were treated at the scene.

A short time later, the man allegedly threatened the occupant of another unit, then ran up the driveway and fled in a blue Holden Barina.

The occupant, a 40-year-old Blackburn man, was not injured.

Police spotted the 2007 Holden Barina unoccupied near the loading bay of a hardware store in Ringwood Square, Ringwood about 10.15am.

The vehicle was allegedly bearing false registration plates.

A police cordon was put in place and the 31-year-old Ferntree Gully man was arrested as he came out of the store.

He allegedly resisted police during the arrest and assaulted an officer. The male officer sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The 31-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was later interviewed by detectives.

He was charged with aggravated burglary with offensive weapon (x2), conduct endangering life, recklessly cause injury, make threats to kill, theft, assault police officer and resist police officer.

The man was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 13 March 2025.
