Police Charge Man After Box Hill And Hawthorn Incidents

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have today charged a man following an aggravated car jacking and an armed robbery in Melbourne's eastern suburbs earlier this month.

A 44-year-old Pascoe Vale man was arrested in Dandenong with assistance from the Fugitive Squad earlier today and interviewed by police.

He has subsequently been charged with aggravated car jacking, theft of motor vehicle, armed robbery, theft, intentionally cause injury, common law assault, failing to stop after an accident and possess cocaine.

The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court tonight.

The charges follow two incidents in Box Hill and Hawthorn on 3 July.

It's alleged the Pascoe Vale man was armed with a knife and approached the male victim in a car park on Whitehorse Road just before 3.10pm.

He subsequently fled in the victim's vehicle and drove to a business on Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn.

While in the store, it's alleged he assaulted a female staff member and a female customer, taking money from the till and the handbag of the customer.

The male victim was not physically injured, and the two women sustained minor injuries.

The male victim's vehicle was later recovered on West Street in Hadfield.
