Police charge man after corrective services officer hit by car at Berrima

A man has been charged following an incident at a correctional facility in the state's southern highlands yesterday.

Just after midday (Sunday 2 June 2019), officers from The Hume Police District were called to a correctional facility in Berrima, following reports a male visitor had allegedly attempted to bring contraband into the centre.

Police have been told two Corrective Services NSW officers attempted to stop the man from leaving the facility in his car, when one of the officers was struck by the vehicle's side mirror.

One officer suffered a fractured wrist and is undergoing surgery today (Monday 3 June 2019) and the second officer was uninjured.

The man managed to leave the facility and an investigation was commenced to locate him.

Following inquiries, about 9.40am today, a 44-year-old man was arrested at a house on Palmerston Road, Hornsby, and taken to Hornsby Police Station.

A search warrant was executed at the house by officers from The Hume Police District, with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad and Kuring-Gai Police Area Command.

Police located and seized drugs, believed to be Methylamphetamine, and fraud related documentation.

The man was charged with use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, supply syringe to inmate in custody, possess prohibited drug and three counts of possess identity information to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail and appeared in Hornsby Local Court today, where he was formally bail refused to reappear on Wednesday 12 June 2019.
