Police Charge Man After Crash At Thurgoona

About 7am yesterday (Wednesday 17 July 2024), police were called to Williams Road, Thurgoona, following reports of a man with a shotgun in a parked utility.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and approached the vehicle, when the man allegedly drove off.

Police will allege the vehicle was found abandoned a short time later on Brooklyn Drive, Thurgoona, after it hit a car and rolled down an embankment.

Police located and seized a firearm and ammunition found inside the vehicle.

A 25-year-old man was found in a nearby drain. He was arrested and taken to Albury Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers attached to the Murray River Proactive Crime Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

About 9.20am today (Thursday 18 July 2024), he was taken to Albury Police Station.

He was charged with 22 offences including:

- Disqualified driving,

- Goods in custody,

- Use unregistered MV,

- Police pursuit,

- Cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of MV,

- Drive manner dangerous,

- Possess loaded firearm public place,

- Possess shortened firearm,

- Possess unauthorised/prohibited firearm,

- Possess prohibited drug(cannabis), possess prohibited drug (methamphetamine), and

- Custody knife in public place.

Police also executed an outstanding arrest warrant for 35 offences, including driving and property-related offences.

He was refused bail to appear before Albury Local Court tomorrow (Friday 19 July 2024).
