Police Charge Man After Fire - Belfield

A man has been charged following a house fire in Sydney's south west.

About 1.50am yesterday (Monday 12 August 2024), emergency services were called to Michael Avenue, Belfield, following reports of a fire.

The house was found to be unoccupied however, a 76-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman who were in a granny flat at the rear of the premises were not injured.

Officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command established a crime scene.

Following an investigation, a 71-year-old man has been charged with destroy/damage property with intent to endanger life (DV).

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 16 October 2024.
