Police Charge Man After Firearms Incidents In Glenroy

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a man following an alleged assault and two firearms incidents in the Glenroy area earlier this week.

Police will allege a woman was assaulted by a man known to her at a property in Essendon North about 7.50am on Thursday, 23 January.

The woman, a 27-year-old from Essendon North, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers were later called to reports of shots fired at two separate vehicles on Tullamarine Freeway, Glenroy and Pascoe Vale Road in Jacana about 9.15am.

No one was injured during either incident.

A few hours later, a 38-year-old Roxburgh Park man presented to a hospital in Coburg with a gunshot wound.

The exact circumstances are still being established, however police believe this is also linked to this series of incidents.

With the assistance of officers from Special Operations Group, a man was located and arrested in a Glenroy Road carpark about 9.50pm on Thursday.

A firearm was also seized.

The 37-year-old Craigieburn man has since been charged with:

- intentionally cause serious injury

- common law assault

- make threat to kill

- contravene intervention order

- theft of moto vehicle

- prohibited person possess a firearm (x2)

- prohibited person use a firearm (x2)

- reckless conduct endanger serious injury (x3)

- discharge firearm at a vehicle (x2)

- drive whilst disqualified

- possess cocaine

- traffick cocaine

- deal with proceeds of crime.

He was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
