Police Charge Man After House Fire - Kingswood

A man will face Court later today after being charged following a house fire in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 6:55am (Tuesday 6 August 2024), emergency services were called to a home on Orth Street, Kingswood, following reports of a house fire.

Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command attended and found a home well alight.

Fire & Rescue NSW crews extinguished the blaze.

A 71-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene and taken to Nepean Hospital in a critical condition.

Police established a crime scene and have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Following inquiries, a 63-year-old man was arrested nearby at 3.15pm and taken to Nepean hospital for medical treatment.

After being discharged from hospital, the man was taken to Penrith police station where he was charged with three offences – damage property by fire with intent to injure, damage property by fire and reckless grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Penrith Local Court later today.
