Police charge man after investigation into break-ins - Riverina

A man will face court today charged after an investigation into a string of break and enters in the Riverina Police District.

Over several days last week, seven break-ins were reported in the areas of Bourkelands and Lloyd, with cash, mobile phones, jewellery and other personal belongings stolen.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District commenced an investigation into the incidents, including if any of them were linked.

Police were told the unknown people gained access to homes via unlocked doors, smashing windows and forcing garage doors open.

About 10.40pm yesterday (Thursday 29 July 2021), officers attached to Riverina Police District and Wagga Wagga's Proactive Crime Team were called to a home on Bedervale Street, Bourkelands, following reports a mobile phone had allegedly been stolen during a break and enter.

As part of inquiries, police attended Kaloona Drive, Bourkelands, where they discovered several other break and enter offences had occurred on the street.

Following a search of the surrounding area, officers located a man at a reserve near Yanko Crescent, Bourkelands, about 11.55pm (Thursday 29 July 2021).

The 44-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.

He was charged with 23 offences including aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence-people there, break and enter dwelling-house with intent, and break, enter and steal.

The Tolland man was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Friday 30 July 2021).
