Police Charge Man After Leichhardt Police Operation

A man has been charged following a police operation in Leichhardt earlier today.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command were called to Marion Street about 10.35am (Saturday 5 October 2024), after reports a man had threatened people with a machete before he ran into a nearby house.

A perimeter was established and – with assistance provided by specialist resources – an operation was initiated to locate the man.

The 54-year-old man was arrested without incident about 12.30pm and was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with four offences,

• Armed with intent to commit indictable offence

• Attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm

• Common assault, and

• Affray.

The man, from Leichhardt, has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Sunday 6 October 2024).

Buses were diverted for about an hour after Marion Street was closed between Cromwell and Elswick streets.
