Police Charge Man After Man Hit By Car Near Dapto

A man has been charged after allegedly driving a car into another man near Dapto last night.

About 8pm (Thursday 7 November 2024), police were called to the Princes Highway at the intersection of Kanahooka Road, Brownsville, following reports of a crash.

Police attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended and were told two men – aged 28 and 49 – were involved in an altercation before the older man allegedly drove a vehicle towards the younger man, pinning him between two vehicles.

The 28-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious condition.

The 49-year-old man drove from the scene and attended Dapto Police Station a short time later, where he was arrested and subjected to mandatory blood and urine testing, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital for further testing.

He was later released and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occ GBH- drive manner dangerous, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing GBH, negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm), and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic).

The man was refused bail and will appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 8 November 2024).

Police established a crime scene, which was assessed by officers from the Crash Investigations Unit.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the two men are known to each other.
