Police charge man after multiple armed robberies in Ultimo and Glebe

A man's been charged after five people were held up at knifepoint in Sydney's inner-west and CBD on Thursday.

Just after 5pm (Thursday 5 August 2021), a 40-year-old man was walking alone in Blackwattle Lane, Ultimo, when he was approached by a male and female who threatened him with a knife and demanded his belongings, before fleeing empty handed.

A short time later the same male and female threatened and assaulted a 21-year-old man then fled empty handed.

About 5.30pm, an unknown male and female duo approached a 25-year-old woman on Macarthur Street, Ultimo, before the male punched the woman in her face and the female stole her purse and a bottle of wine; then fled west on Bay Street.

Officers from Leichardt Police Area Command attended a short time later and crime scenes were established at both locations.

About 8pm, a 49-year-old man was approached by an unknown male and female on Wentworth Street, near Cowper Street, Glebe, threatened, then had a box containing personal items stolen from him.

Around an hour later, a 24-year-old man was standing outside a licenced premise on Queen Street and Cowper Street, Glebe, when he was approached by an unknown male and threatened with a knife.

The man handed over personal items and the unknown male fled, last seen heading east on Queen Street.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for cuts and bruising to her face but declined further treatment. The men were shaken but otherwise uninjured.

Following inquiries and a public appeal for information, a 24-year-old man was arrested in Glebe about 2pm yesterday (Friday 6 August 2021).

He was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with robbery (in company) (two counts), robbery (armed with an offensive weapon), affray, custody of a knife in public place, aggravated assault w/i rob and inflict ABH, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal) and breaching the Public Health Orders.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 7 August 2021).

As inquiries continue, police have released images of a female they believe can assist with their inquiries.

She is described as being of Caucasian appearance, and is depicted wearing black exercise tights, a light blue t-shirt and white coloured hat and jumper.
