A man has been charged over multiple pursuits on the states north over the weekend.
About 9.10pm on Friday (4 March 2022), officers attached to New England Police District attempted to stop a Nissan Navara on the Gwydir Highway heading towards Elsmore, when it failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was soon terminated on Elsmore Rd, due to safety concerns.
About 9.45pm, police engaged in a pursuit with the vehicle west of Guyra. The pursuit was terminated a short time later.
Detectives from New England Police District commenced an investigation into the incidents.
Just after 2.30pm on Saturday (5 March 2022), Traffic and Highway Patrol officers sighted the Nissan Navara travelling north on Thunderbolts Way, Uralla, and attempted to stop the vehicle.
Again, failing to stop, a pursuit was engaged with road spikes successfully deployed.
The vehicle drove into a private property on Thunderbolts Way, where it proceeded through several paddocks until the vehicle came to a stop.
The driver stole another vehicle on the property and continued through paddocks before being stopped by officers from New England Police District and Oxley Police District.
The 28-year-old man was arrested by police after a short foot pursuit.
He was taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with:
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic) (2 counts),
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), Common assault (DV),
- Possess unauthorised firearm,
- Commit s114 offence, having previous conviction
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously (3 counts)
- Enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse
- Destroy or damage property more than $ 5000 & less than $15000
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
- Possess prohibited drug (2 counts)
The Uralla man was bail refused and appeared at Tamworth Local Court yesterday (Sunday 6 March 2022), where he was formally bail refused to reappear before Inverell Local Court on Thursday 7 March 2022.
