Police Charge Man After Point Lonsdale Fire

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a man following a grass fire in Point Lonsdale this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a grass fire at a Glaneuse Road property about 12.30pm and nearby residents were evacuated.

The fire was quickly controlled, however approximately two acres of land was burnt.

No one was injured.

A 41-year-old man was located on Main Street Point Lonsdale and arrested.

It is alleged the offender stole a pushbike during an aggravated burglary on Albert Street in Point Lonsdale prior to the alleged fires.

A man of no fixed address has been charged with criminal damage by fire, criminal damage by fire - endanger life, theft, aggravated burglary and other related offences.

He has been remanded to appear at Geelong Magistrates Court tomorrow.
