Police Charge Man After Port Melbourne Collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal collision in Port Melbourne last night.

Emergency services were called to Plummer Street just after 8pm following reports a car had struck a cyclist on Monday, 20 August.

The cyclist, a 27-year-old Southbank man, died at the scene.

The driver of the car initially fled the scene before handing himself in to police a short time later.

A 32-year-old Port Melbourne man has since been charged with failing to stop and render assistance at an accident and drink driving.

He was bailed to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 22 August 2024.
