Police charge man after pursuit and crash - Long Jetty

A man has been charged after a pursuit and two-vehicle crash on the state's Central Coast today.

About 10.50am (Friday 4 February 2022), officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District were patrolling the Long Jetty area when they observed an alleged disqualified driver in a Nissan X-Trail travelling north on Tuggerah Parade.

Police activated lights and warning sirens and a pursuit was initiated when the driver failed to stop.

The X-Trail continued onto Watkins Street before colliding with a Toyota Corolla at the intersection of Pacific Street.

The driver of the Corolla – a 24-year-old female – was trapped by confinement for a short period, before she was released and taken to Gosford Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the X-Trail – a 30-year-old man – allegedly ran from the scene and was arrested after a short foot pursuit.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and resist officer in execution of duty.

The Killarney Vale man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 5 February 2022).
