Police Charge Man After Pursuit At Blacktown

A man has been charged following a police pursuit and crash in Blacktown this morning.

About 2.40am (Sunday 26 January 2025), police attempted to stop an SUV travelling on the Prospect Highway, Blacktown for the purpose of a random roadside breath test.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop a pursuit was initiated and continued through Blacktown and Doonside where the vehicle reached alleged speeds of 120km/h in a 60km/h marked speed zone.

The pursuit ended when the SUV hit a pole at the intersection of Newtown Road and Walters Road, Blackown.

The driver – a 56-year-old man – allegedly ran from the vehicle and was arrested nearby.

Police checks revealed the man was disqualified from driving until April 2025.

Three passengers in the vehicle – one man and two women – were uninjured during the incident.

The man was taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was charged with drive when visiting driver privileges withdrawn-prior offence, and police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously.

He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 26 January 2025).
