A man will face court today after an alleged pursuit in the state's Illawarra.
About 6am yesterday (Thursday 16 January 2025), officers attached to Wollongong Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement in Waterfall when they attempted to stop a black Toyota Aurion when it was detected allegedly speeding.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued on the Old Princes Highway through Helensburgh, Darkes Forrest, Bulli Tops and towards Wollongong.
Tyre deflation spikes were successfully deployed at Mount Ousley; however, the vehicle continued through Fairy Meadow and Corrimal where it failed to negotiate a turn and crashed.
A 38-year-old man was arrested following a short foot pursuit and taken to Wollongong Police station where he was charged with:
- Police pursuit, - speed exceed > 45km/h,
- Drive whilst disqualified (second offence),
- Possess housebreaking implements,
- Vehicle not comply with standards (tyres), and
- Drive in darkness with no lights.
He was refused bail and appeared before Wollongong Local Court yesterday (Thursday 16 January 2025) where he was again refused bail to reappear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 21 January 2025.
