Police Charge Man After Pursuit In Bourke

A man will face court charged following a pursuit in the state's north-west today.

About 12.35am (Tuesday 6 August 2024), police were patrolling the Kamilaroi Highway, Bourke, when they attempted to stop a white Mahindra S5 for the purpose of a random breath test.

When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

About 2.45am today, Walgett police were patrolling the Kamilaroi Highway, Walgett, when they sighted the Mahindra drive into a driveway and stop.

Police activated their warning devices and spoke with driver before he was arrested. The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which he refused.

The Mahindra was searched and police seized two firearm stocks, and a knife.

The 50-year-old man was taken to Walgett Police Station and refused to submit to a secondary breath analysis and was charged with;

  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly
  • Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
  • Refuse or fail to submit to breath test
  • Custody of knife in public place
  • Refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis, and
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Walgett Local Court on Tuesday 10 September 2024.
