Police Charge Man After Pursuit In Moree

A man will face court today following a pursuit in the state's North.

About 11.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 28 August 2024), officers attached to New England Police District were patrolling the Newell Highway, when they attempted to stop a gold Nissan X-trail.

When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. A short time later the vehicle came to a stop when it hit a fence on Billa Street, Moree.

The driver exited the car and fled on foot before police commenced a foot pursuit. A short time later police arrested the driver.

The 24-year-old man was taken to Moree Police Station.

He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.

The man was also charged with thirteen unrelated domestic violence-related offences.

He was refused bail to appear at Inverell Local Court today (Thursday 29 August 2024).
