Police Charge Man After Pursuit On South Coast

A man has been charged following an alleged pursuit on the South Coast.

About 11am yesterday (Monday 31 March 2025), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling when they sighted an alleged stolen Mercedes, about one kilometre west of Black Flat Road, Currowan.

When the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, it allegedly sped off and a pursuit was initiated.

Police will allege the car went onto the incorrect side of the road, before road spikes were deployed, and the car came to a stop on the Kings Highway Nelligen.

The male driver allegedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

The 25-year-old man was arrested a short time later, following a foot pursuit.

Police searched the man, allegedly seizing a pocket knife.

He was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station and charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, receive property stolen outside NSW and custody of knife in public place.

He was refused bail to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court today (Tuesday 1 April 2025).

Police will allege the car was stolen from the ACT before being driven into New South Wales.
