Police Charge Man After Quambatook Death

Detectives from the Homicide Squad have charged a man as part of their investigation into a body located in Quambatook this week.

A 67-year-old Quambatook man was arrested without incident yesterday morning in the Welshmans Reef area.

He was interviewed by police and subsequently charged with murder.

The man was remanded to appear at Bendigo Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

The arrest follows the discovery of a body in Quambatook yesterday.

Emergency services initially responded to a grass fire near Cemetery Road and Knight Road about 6.30am on 21 January.

A body was located at the site of the fire and forensic testing is underway to determine the identity of the deceased, who is believed to be female.

The investigation remains ongoing.
