A man has been charged following an investigation into a serious motor vehicle collision earlier this year.
About 1:10pm on Thursday 3 June 2021, emergency services were called to Sawtell Road, Toormina, following reports a Holden Captiva SUV, travelling west bound, collided head-on with a Honda CRV travelling in the opposite direction.
Officers attached to the Coffs-Clarence Police District, with assistance from specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit, attended and commenced an investigation into the crash.
The driver of the Holden – a 44-year-old-man – and his two passengers – a 38-year-old-man and 38-year-old woman – were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus with multiple, serious injuries.
The driver of the Honda – a 64-year-old man – was trapped for some time before being freed by Fire and Rescue NSW. He was also treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to the same hospital in a serious condition.
Both drivers underwent mandatory testing.
Following inquiries, detectives arrested the 44-year-old man in Coffs Harbour yesterday (Thursday 25 November 2021).
He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with:
- aggravated dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm – drive under the influence of drug or drugs,
- dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm - drive under the influence,
- dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm - drive manner danger,
- negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm),
- negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm),
- cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle,
- cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle,
- drive vehicle under influence of drugs,
- drive vehicle, illicit drug present in blood,
- drive while licence cancelled,
- not keep left of dividing line - not class B/C vehicle.
The Coffs Harbour man was granted conditional bail to attend Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday 10 January 2022.
